What's New from June/July 1998

We survived our first week back on the road. It sure is great to be rolling along, but I really miss the telephone and being able to check email any ole time I want. Our first day out, I tried three times to get email and it didn't work. I finally found a computer store and he let me use his dedicated line. Kinko's didn't work and neither did the RV dealer (Earnhart) in Mesa. They had phone jacks and I got excited, but they were digital (for their switchboard) and wouldn't work for computers. They don't speak the same language. Our first stop was the Coast to Coast park in Bullhead City, Arizona (across the Colorado River from Laughlin, Nevada) and they didn't have a phone line I could use either. Since I knew we were coming to Silverton RV park in Vegas and that they had phone hookups on site, I decided to just wait until we got here.

Our week in Vegas was fun. Ron's daughter, Marty, and son-in-law, Bryan, were attending a convention here so we spent some time seeing the sights together. They weren't interested in any of the thrill rides so I didn't go either. Darn!

The Strip is changing. There are more big casinos going up. Belagio, Mandalay Bay, Venetian, and a new Aladdin will be open by 2000 and we feel that we contributed to the building boom by donating some of our money. I even gave back the $250 jackpot I won.

We are leaving here Monday, June 7 and traveling to Salt Lake City the long way. If you get out a map and trace U. S. 93 from Las Vegas up to I-80 at the Utah border you will know the direction we are taking. It should be a relaxing trip. Don't know for sure where we will stay Sunday night. There are few towns along the way and just a couple of national forest campgrounds. If all else fails, we will spend the night at the KOA in Ely, although that would be our last choice. A little boondocking would be much more fun.

I will try my hand at email after we pick up the boys. But remember we will be in national park areas and I am not at all sure what kinds of services we will find there. Hang in there and we will too.

I have caught up on the Our House Has Wheels articles. I also added an article about Oatman, Arizona, and Laughlin, Nevada,  in the Places file. Check them out.

Great Vacation.  We had a terrific two weeks with grandsons Richard and Ryan. Rather than type the information again, please go to our Utah page in the Places department (Utah) and read about all we did.  It was a vacation though with travel at a more hetic pace than we like so after one full week here in Thayne, Wyoming, we are our old selves again. We leave on Wednesday July 1 and head to Riverton, Wyoming, for two days then Thermopolis, Wyoming for four days before heading to Canada. If you are in the area look for us.
